Mauchline Primary vs Climate Change

We would like to implement a walking bus to reduce emissions, and waste free lunches by producing reusable lunch boxes and water bottles for pupils who don't have them.  We would also like to introduce recycling in the school dinner hall. 

Cost £350 for Hi Viz vests, walking bus sign, resuable lunch boxes/water bottles, washing tubs and recycling bins,

Stewarton Youth Club/ Litter pick Sculpture

We would like to do a litter pick in our area and use the litter to produce a sculpture to display in our local area to help promote recycling and encourage people to look after their environment.  We will link with Glasgow Scuplture Arts to provide the workshop.

We plan to undertake an intergenerational litter pick and educational project to encourage people to recycle properly.  We also plan to use the litter we collect to run creative workshops making badges, keyrings etc. and set up walking groups to encourage people to use cars less.

Cost - £460 to buy/equipment, produce leaflets, venue hire and refreshments

Worm Farm Enterprise - Making our community brighter

We want to improve our local community by buying a worm farm.  This will produe compost which we will use in our playground to enhance our local environment.  We then plan to extend this to the local community by using worm farm compost as a sustainable enterprise opportunity.

Cost £200 to buy worm farm, specialist worms and equipment

Shortlees Primary School - Whitelee Windfarm Trip

We would like to organise a trip for the Eco Committee to learn about fossil fuels and the harm they do to our environment.  We will also learn about the benefits of renewable energy sources in Scotland.

Cost £340 to cover transport and entry to the workshop at the windfarm.

Learning Outdoor Support Team

I would like to bring together young people and volunteers from Project Scotland to produce workshops to empower young people to make ethical decisions around finance, politics, democracy and rights, as they will be better informed of the impact of their choices.

Cost £500 to cover travel costs for volunteers, staff for workshops, refreshments and promotional materials.

Climate Kidz/Stewarton No Power Hour

We plan to raise awareness of climate change and attempt to save power in Stewarton by promoting Stewarton No Power Hour for one hour per week.  We will use money to produce posters/banner/advertise in local paper and host a climate change event in our school.

Cost - £500 to cover posters/banner/newspaper advert, let of school for event.

Lainshaw Transition Group/Saving the planet

The group will produce posters to show how climate change is important to everyone.  The young people will do a litter pick within the community and recycle the litter to make something to show in the community.  The group will be provided with T-shirts so the community can identify them when they are undertaking the litter pick. 

Cost £464 to cover staff costs, t-shirts for group, transport costs and refreshments

Butterfly Bar @ The Knowe

Climate Change is having a negative effect on the pollinators we need for food production.  We plan to buy plants to create a "Butterfly Bar" to attract pollinators, which local children and young people will plant.
